Meet Jan Martensen, D.C., Ph.D., D.A.C.B.R.,

Board Certified Radiologist. Former Associate Professor of Radiology (Life University Clinical Sciences Division)

Dr. Martensen is a cum laude 1984 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He did his internship in departments of chiropractic technique and radiology and residency in diagnostic radiology at Palmer College in Iowa. Following residency Dr. Martensen entered private practice of radiology in 1988 in Toledo, Ohio. In 2013 He was invited to join the faculty of Life University in the Clinical Sciences Division (radiology section) as an Associate Professor, where he stayed until 2015. Dr. Martensen is a Diplomat of the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (D.A.C.B.R.) and has specialty certification in CT and MRI interpretation. Dr. Martensen graduated from the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo in 2004 with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Sciences, concentration in radiological sciences.

Dr. Martensen’s professional involvement is extensive. He is past president of the American Chiropractic College of Radiology (ACCR), spending six years on the executive committee of the college. Dr. Martensen also heads up the ACCR Commission on Radiological Physics and Safety as Commission chair and is a senior physicist for the Commission. He represented the ACCR and American Chiropractic Association (ACA) as a liaison to the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD) from 1995-2014. He is also a physicist liaison on the prestigious US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Device and Radiological Health (CDRH) Nationwide Evaluation of X-ray Trends Committee (NEXT) and is contributor to multiple books published jointly by FDA and CRCPD regarding the committee’s work.

While in the state of Ohio, Dr. Martensen has been a member of the board of directors of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA), chair of the OSCA Council on Diagnostic Imaging and member and chair of the Education Committee. Dr. Martensen is currently consulting with the New Hampshire Chiropractic Association on radiological matters.

Dr. Martensen lectures frequently on topics ranging from advanced imaging, MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, radiology, radiological physics, radiation safety and health to anatomy, pathophysiology, rehabilitation and active care. He is on postgraduate faculty of multiple chiropractic colleges and a frequent contributor of online CE education courses. Dr. Martensen also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine and on the now defunct Topics in Diagnostic Imaging and Advanced Imaging.
